Scott County Sheriff Jeff Edds has been issued a criminal summons following allegations of assault and battery in connection with an incident that occurred on Sunday.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Scott County General District Court, Edds’s daughter-in-law reported finding her and her child’s belongings outside in the rain when she arrived at her home. Upon entering, Edds, who was in the living room, allegedly told her to leave. The complaint claims that Edds then pushed her while attempting to force her out of the house.
“I was scared he was physically going to hurt me when he put his hands on me and was pushing me so forcefully,” the complaint reads.
Virginia State Police confirmed they served the summons to Edds. He is scheduled to appear in court on October 1 at 8:30 a.m.
Scott County Commonwealth’s Attorney Kyle Kilgore has recused himself from the case, and a new prosecutor will be appointed by the court.
