Greeneville High School will forfeit its August 23 win against Tennessee High School after it was discovered that an ineligible student-athlete participated in the game.
On August 28, Greeneville High learned of a potential eligibility issue involving a football player. The school stated in a news release that the athlete had been mistakenly omitted from the eligibility paperwork submitted to the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA).
Following a thorough review, it was determined that, due to incomplete paperwork at the time of the game, Greeneville High had fielded an ineligible player. The school promptly self-reported the violation to TSSAA and submitted a hardship application, which was approved on Tuesday.
According to the school’s statement, the ineligible student-athlete only played in the game against Tennessee High.
