On September 7, firefighters and community members will gather at Bristol Motor Speedway for a meaningful event: the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb. Hosted by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF), this event honors the bravery of the Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001.
The climb involves participants ascending 2,200 steps, symbolizing the 110 stories of the World Trade Center. Each step taken represents the courageous journey FDNY firefighters undertook in their efforts to save others. “The NFFF 9/11 Memorial Stair Climbs are an opportunity for anyone in the community to demonstrate respect and admiration for these courageous firefighters who gave their lives trying to save others,” said NFFF CEO Victor Stagnaro. “It’s also a way to promise their loved ones that we will always remember.”
The event will kick off with an opening ceremony at 9 a.m., followed by the climb at 9:36 a.m. Memorial stair climbs like this one also raise funds to support NFFF’s programs, which assist the families of fallen firefighters and provide resources through the FDNY Counseling Service Unit.
Those interested in participating can register online or on-site at the Bristol Motor Speedway on September 7. This event is a powerful way to honor the memory of the heroes of 9/11 and support their families.
